Taiwan's largest media syndicate, the China Times Group, will deploy its strongest resources in reporting World Expo 2010 in Shanghai and promoting the event among Taiwanese, according to its owner.
Tsai Eng-meng, who is also chairman of the Taiwan food group Want Want, said on Thursday that the China Times would step up its Expo coverage.
Tsai was visiting the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination. His delegation was briefed by Zhu Yonglei, deputy director general of the Expo Bureau.
Expo Shanghai will be the first full-fledged six-month Expo hosted by a developing country, Zhu said. He expressed hope the China Times Group would play a significant role in promoting Expo on the island and attracting many Taiwanese.
China Times Group last month announced that the group had been sold to Want Want for 20.4 billion new Taiwan dollars (US$624 million). The 58-year-old group owns the China Times, the Commercial Times, the China Times Weekly, and the CTI TV and China Television Co Networks.
Want Want started investment on the Chinese mainland in 1992. Its products include rice crackers, dairy and beverages.
Tsai and his delegation toured the Expo master plan exhibition hall in the Expo Mansion and had a bird's eye view of the Expo Site from atop the building.
