Work to begin on new lines

Construction will start soon on subway lines 12 and 13, according to the city's transport and construction commission.
Line 12 will link Minhang District with Pudong New Area and is expected to be completed at the end of 2012. The line will include 14 interchange stations to connect with nine other subway lines, commission officials said.
The first phase of Line 13 that connects downtown Nanjing Road W. with Jiading District is scheduled to be finished following World Expo 2010.
However, several stations serving World Expo Park will open in time for the event. The line will cross the Huangpu River and stretch about 5 kilometers.
Line 13 will be the only Metro line to serve the Shanghai World Expo sites, the commission said.
