Architect discusses rabbit building
Date:06/02/2009

Carlos Marreiros
Carlos Marreiros will discuss his design for Macau's World Expo 2010 pavilion - shaped like a jade rabbit lantern - at the Shanghai Library on Sunday at 4pm.
The free lecture will be the first in organizers' "Our Expo" series this year - aimed at keeping residents informed about Expo.
Marreiros, a Macau architect, will talk about the design of the pavilion, which aims to present a mythological world via multi-media technologies.
The design was inspired by rabbit lanterns which were popular at Lantern Festivals in southern China in ancient times, officials said when unveiling the design in October. In Chinese mythology, the jade rabbit is a guide to Nantianmen, the door leading to a fairyland.
The pavilion will be wrapped with a double-layer glass membrane and have fluorescent screens on its outside walls. Giant moving balloons will provide the rabbit's head and tail, which should attract visitors.
The building will be eco-friendly, made from recyclable construction materials, with solar power panels and rain collection systems.
Macau's culture and economic development will be presented at the pavilion.
You can book tickets to the lecture at the library at 1555 Central Huaihai Road or by sending a text message to 1062222255.
