From 1 May to 31 October, Expo 2010 will be taking place in Hamburg’s partner city Shanghai/PR China. On the topic “Better city, better life”, not only different countries but also individual cities will be presenting themselves at an International Exhibition for the first time. As the only German city, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg will be involved with its own building project – the Hamburg House. The building will probably be the first certified new construction project for a passive-house with an excellent energy standard in China, thus setting new standards. To support this innovative project, we are looking for
Hostesses/hosts/volunteers (f/m) Hamburg participation Expo 2010 Shanghai
Tasks of the volunteers:
Looking after visitors
Access control incl. coordination of the stream of visitors
Additional tasks of the hostesses/hosts:
Competently looking after professional delegations, VIPs and sponsors
Tours of the Hamburg House for professional delegations as well as other international delegations from economy and politics (multilingual; at least Mandarin, English)
Taking care of the VIP Lounge
Service at the information counter
Place and period of employment:
During the Expo (for dates, see above), you will be working on location in the Hamburg House in Shanghai. The working time will be 40 hours per week on average for the employment. Part-time contracts (20 hours a week) are possible for volunteers by prior arrangement.
The period of employment for volunteers can be agreed individually, but must be at least 2 months. Depending on when employment commences, the volunteers are prepared for their tasks in a one-day “Training on the job”.
For hostesses/hosts, there will be an intense training course in Shanghai from 16 to 30 April 2010. The contracts with hostesses/hosts/you will be concluded for 16 April to 31 October 2010. Please bear in mind that we can only consider applicants for these positions who are available for the complete period (training and duration of Expo).
Requirements:
Fluent in English and Mandarin
Minimum age 20
Poise and self-confidence also in situations of stress
Friendliness and strong communication skills
Reliability and ability to work in a team
Experience in service or customer support
Additional requirements of hostesses/hosts:
Aside being fluent in English and Mandarin, additional language skills (particularly German)
Academic studies, e.g. with a focus on architecture, engineering, environment or similar
Knowledge on Germany / Hamburg

According to your know-how and skills, you will be working in various positions at the Hamburg House and be taking on the above specified tasks. You will be rotating from one position to the next.
You will be paid appropriately for your work as a volunteer or hostess/host. Please consider that we unfortunately cannot reimburse your travel or accommodation expenses.
