Chinese calligraphy will be painted on the outer walls of the Spain Pavilion of Shanghai Expo 2010, said the Spanish officials yesterday at the press conference of the Spain Pavilion promotion week in Shanghai.
A verse of a Chinese poem will be painted on the wicker basket style pavilion to add more Chinese culture flavor to the pavilion and make the pavilion more artistic, said Benedetta Tagliabue, the designer of the Spain Pavilion who "gained the inspiration gradually."
So far the verse hasn't been decided yet, said Tagliabue.
Covering about 6,000 square meters, the Spain Pavilion is designed to be a hand-weaved wicker basket structure supported by the steel framework inside, which locates in the Pudong area of the Expo sites neighboring the Belgium Pavilion and the Swiss Pavilion.
Wicker weaving is a tradition in both Spain and China and the pavilion is like a bridge connecting the two nations, said Javier Conde de Saro, Spain's commissioner general for World Expo Shanghai.
"It symbolizes the friendship between Spain and China," Conde de Saro said. "I wish the pavilion could be kept after the Expo."
As one of the biggest national pavilions, the Spain Pavilion contains three exhibition halls which will take visitors through the time and space of the development of the cities in Spain with the theme of "From the City of Our Parents to the City of Our Children."
The Exhibition Center of Shanghai Expo 2010 on 300 Huaihai Road M in Luwan District is promoting the Spain Pavilion in the following week by showcasing the model of the pavilion along with the introduction of the country's art, sports, resources and history as the feature of the center.
The exhibition will be on until next Wednesday.
