Meeting has Expo Summit underway

Top officials from the Expo Shanghai organizer, the United Nations and Bureau of International Expositions reached agreement on preparation for the Expo Shanghai Summit during a meeting at the UN headquarters in New York yesterday.
Yang Xiong, executive vice mayor of Shanghai and executive deputy director of the Executive Committee of the Expo, presented the plan of the summit, which is co-sponsored by Expo Shanghai organizer, the United Nations and the Bureau of International Expositions The meeting is scheduled to be held in the Expo Centre on October 31, 2010.
He proposed a division of responsibilities and duties among the three sponsoring organizations to senior officials at the meeting, including Sha Zukang, deputy secretary general of the UN, and Vicente Gonzalez Loscertales, secretary general of the International Expositions Bureau.
Yang also introduced basic ideas of the draft of “Shanghai Declaration” – the document which is set to be published after Expo Shanghai. The declaration will summarize and reflect Expo participants’ point of views on the future of city development in the world.
Sha and Loscertales shared their opinions on the topics. The top officials reached consensus on the framework of Expo Summit, drafting principles of “Shanghai Declaration” and how to share the responsibilities and duties for the preparation works.
Expo Summit will not only summarize the outcomes of all Expo-related forums, but also conclude the Expo 2010 and its Urban Best Practice cases at a philosophical level, the officials said at the meeting. They also hoped the summit would help boost the future of city development as well as World Expo events.
