Forum eyes development and cultural preservation

An Expo-related forum today brought together experts and scholars in urban planning to explore the sustainable development and historical and cultural preservation of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
At the forum in Nanning, capital city of Guangxi, attendees shared their visions on how to promote sustainable development and protect historical and cultural heritage in a string of cities that face the Gulf of Tonkin, including Nanning, Beihai, Qinzhou, Fangchenggang within the Guangxi Gulf of Tonkin economic zone, and neighboring Yulin and Chongzuo.
The forum fell into the category of autonomous regional, provincial and municipal public forums of the 2010 Expo, which are being held nationwide. A total of 21 such forums have been held since April.
Ma Biao, chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said Guangxi will showcase its cultural glamour and tap its cultural value via the Expo.

Ye Rutang, member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, called on officials to pay close attention to environmental protection during urbanization and maintain a balance in urban development and eco preservation.
Ye is the former deputy director of the Committee of Environmental Protection and Resource Conservation of NPC and former vice-minister of construction.
Zhu Xiaoming, vice chairman of the Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said Shanghai will share the fruits of World Expo with other domestic autonomous regions, provinces and municipalities, as well as Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
