Cut-price Haibao toys combat copycats
Date:11/02/2010
Prices of genuine plush toys of 2010 World Expo's mascot Haibao have been cut by nearly half to fight copycats at street stalls.
The promotion, involving five models, is on sale until tomorrow at local Expo franchise stores, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.
The price for a 35-cm Haibao, for example, has been cut from 95 yuan (US$13.90) to 50 yuan.
On the streets, some vendors are selling fakes at 10 yuan and offering a free gift. But the Expo bureau said the copycats are made of poor material which could pose health hazards.
