Brief Introduction:
The rapid development of information and communication technologies has greatly accelerated the process of economic globalization. The 21st century is a century of global urbanization and cities are playing an increasingly important role in countries and regions. The ongoing ICT evolution is reshaping and regrouping traditional cities as well as transforms their social and economic bases enormously. Just like industrialization completely changed the organization of cities in the agricultural societies, the progress of information and communication technologies is the key element of the transformation of modern cities. Information and telecommunication technologies, as one of the important choices of a future city, holds out the promises of a better life.
Through Expo Online, Shanghai 2010 creates a full virtual counterpart of the physical Expo. This is a major innovation of the World Expos itself where the role of ICT is no longer limited to providing platforms and services, but ICTs themselves become the media of the Expo that extends an even bigger global public. With this creative spirit the forum approaches the topic of ICT and Urban Development in the following format.
The forum includes a Plenary Session, an Internet and Information Industry Dialogue and seven parallel sessions: ICT and Urban Management; ICT and Urban Life;ICT and Global Cooperation;Modern Logistics and the Construction of Shipping Centers;ICT and Industries;ICT and Education;ICT and Social Responsibilities. The forum explores the cities’ future through the development of information and communication technologies, focusing on issues of urban management, urban life and urban integration in the global economic framework.
