The China State Shipbuilding Corporation Pavilion welcomes its 5 millionth visitor.
The China State Shipbuilding Corporation Pavilion yesterday became the first corporate pavilion at the World Expo to hit a record of 5 million visitors.
Gu Yunqing, a 62-year-old Shanghai resident, received a certificate, a ship model, a commemorative coin, a postage album, and an invitation to visit the Jiangnan Shipyard's new base on the city's Changxing Island.
The 145-year-old Jiangnan Shipyard, originally Kiangnan Arsenal, holds numerous records as the manufacturer of China's first rifle, first cannon, first 10,000-ton hydraulic press and first observatory ship. It was relocated to Changxing Island to give its original site to the World Expo.
Gu said she had worked in the field of water conservancy before retirement and was very familiar with the shipyard's history.
