Yang Xiong, the executive vice mayor of
Shanghai
Shanghai World Expo has signed China's top oil producer as its
12th global partner.
The China National Petroleum Corporation, which is also a global partner for
the Beijing Olympics, will provide oil and gas as well as financial support for
the 2010 event.
Yang Xiong, the executive vice mayor of Shanghai, said CNPC's participation
embodies its sense of social responsibility and strategy, adding that the
Shanghai Expo will provide an opportunity for the corporation to expand its
international influence in the run-up to one a major world event.
The oil heavyweight plans to increase investment in upgrading its gas
pipelines and logistics-based facilities to meet the demands of the Expo, said
Wang Yilin, vice president of CNPC.
CNPC's businesses involve oil and gas, oilfield services, engineering and
construction, petroleum material and equipment manufacturing and supply, capital
management,finance and insurance services as well as new energy operations.
Shanghai Expo organizers are working on a promotional plan involving all the
sponsors in the run-up to the 600-day countdown to the 2010 event. The 600-day
countdown begins on September 8.
